***I want to register a new glyph. How should I proceed?

Firstly, carefully consider the name of the glyph you want to register. It may already exist within GlyphWiki, so please use the search field in the menu on the left to confirm that it has not already been registered. If no entry exists with this name, the name you entered will appear as a red hyperlink right after the “You searched for:” message. Click this link to start editing the new entry. If a gray link appears, the name you have entered cannot be used. Please consult the “Naming new glyphs” article ([[GlyphWiki:GlyphNaming]]), and try altering the name you want to use.

***What exactly is a “glyph”?

Within GlyphWiki the term '''glyph''' is used to indicate an individual kanji character's specific shape. The term '''font''' when used in the context of GlyphWiki, refers to a group of characters (such as the collection of the 7000-odd characters specified in the JIS kanji set) or its TrueType font file. At GlyphWiki, data are managed on a per-glyph basis. If the '''group''' descriptor is used, a font file containing all the glyphs in that group can be automatically generated.

***I want to delete a registered glyph, group, or page. Is this possible?

GlyphWiki is built on the notion that “everybody owns the data”, so in principle it is not possible to simply remove contributions, even your own. Of course, previously entered data can be examined or recovered through that glyph's history (for example, if someone were to overwrite a registered glyph's data with “0:0:0:0”, resulting in a blank page). For more information, please consult the [[GlyphWiki:DeletionPolicy]] article.
